Working Out… At Work

April 2, 2013 by Mary

As I mentioned before, we moved office buildings recently. I’m still getting to know this new building but I’ve already discovered a perk we did not previously have: a gym!

Office building gym

A couple months ago I joined the Kroc Center and I’ve enjoyed going, but I wanted to try working out at work. I thought a morning workout might be more appealing if I had a 1 minute commute once I was done.

This morning that theory was put to the test. I woke up an hour earlier and went early to hit the gym.

Office gym

I was alone the whole time. We’ve been told the gym doesn’t get much use, which isn’t too surprising. It’s in the buildings basement and it’s not exactly high tech equipment. However, it has the basics and worked perfectly fine for a little weight lifting and cardio on the bike.

After the workout I took a shower, got ready, and went upstairs. It was super easy and made me feel really productive and excited about the day.

Striped dress

There will be repeats of this experience I’m sure. I haven’t quite worked out my exercise schedule yet but tomorrow is a walk/run day so I won’t be hitting the gym. Maybe Thursday? Pretty excited to go back and have a gym to myself, even a tiny one!

Do you workout at work? It seems very few people in my building do, but several people on Twitter mentioned they do it! Maybe it’s just because our gym is outdated. Working out at work is kind of an awesome idea!

WOW! That sounds ideal. All that lovely equipment and you don’t have to “share”? Awesome!
I’m the same. I find if I workout in the morning it sets me up for a productive rest of the day.

That’s awesome that you have a gym at your job. I don’t think I would ever work out at work because it would take me too much time to get back to looking presentable afterwards.

    Cute outfit!

Haha. I’m pretty low maintenance so it doesn’t take me long to get ready. I did forget my hair dryer though so I went to work with wet hair. Oops!

So the new building has a workout area that is really cool, and I am assuming it has showers since you look so cute and ready for the day, and I don’t imagine you ran home to do that. Ha… Love the dress and you do love your sweaters!!

Nice that you have that option (even if it is little and out-dated)!! Cute dress!

That is great that your company has a gym! I used to work for a company that had its own gym, but we had to pay for it. It would be nice to start the day with a workout, especially if you have the place to yourself.

It’s not my company’s but the office building. Our company has access because we lease a floor in the building. ;)

That’s great! A bunch of people in my office work out (it seems a big giant chunk of this whole city does) but we don’t have a gym in our building. I’ll bet if we did, it’d get a ton of use. it would be so convenient!

Wish my work had a gym. The proximity and the savings of not having a memership fee would be nice.

That sounds so fantastically convenient! I live 2 minutes walk from an aquatic centre with a gym. It is the first thing I see on opening my curtains each morning – can’t escape the friendly reminder to get over there! lol

In my younger days when I worked for a company that had a gym AND there were no 24 hour gyms, I did work out at work but after so I could go home & do all my shower stuff there.. very convenient! Hope you like! :)

We got this grant through “workplaces in motion,” and I’ve been the little fitness leader at work for about a year. We have yoga sessions at lunch time sometimes, and a few of us have standing desks, and we’ve done pedometer challenges… not quite the same as having a gym at work, but it’s fun! Nice way to bond too if you get coworkers involved.

I slip away and walk during my day. And we have an exercise bike at work. (I’ve only used it a couple of times cause biking isn’t my thing). And we started a Zumba class 1 or 2 times a week at the office.

My company started a walking club and encourages us to get the steps in. THis month, we have to walk 25000 steps,a week, but we also have to walk at least one lap a week with at least 2 other walking club members.

I used to work for a company that had a beautiful gym. I would go and walk on the treadmill on my breaks, nothing too strenuous so I wouldn’t sweat too much, but every little bit counts! I loved the view from the main workout space because our building was on a hill and it overlooked the entire city!

That’s really sweet! Oh I wish we have a gym in our office, it is really nice since it has shower room too. Very cool!

Great score on the gym, and cute dress! I love stripes!

That’s awesome! I’ve worked out on my lunch break a lot but never AT the office. We don’t have a gym and though there was some empty office space for a while, I was always too self-conscious to go in there to do a DVD or something. If we had a gym I’d definitely work out at lunch or late afternoon when my energy is crashing.

PS Love that dress on you!!

It’s Amazing how good I feel too after a workout. It’s like I have all this positive energy flowing. It makes me feel like I really accomplished something and I sleep better at night too. Keep up the good work and hitting the gym!
